The drinks industry contributes hugely to our social, cultural and community life.Socially, the moderate and responsible enjoyment of alcohol is fundamental to the Irish way of life. The pub and the hospitality industry are key parts of our tourism, cultural and community infrastructure.
Moreover, the Irish pub – throughout the country – provides an important social function, particularly in rural Ireland. The developing trend of rural pub closures, is a having a major impact on the lives of many people who have used their local pub not only as a means of enjoying alcohol, but also of interacting with their local community.
The Irish pub is as much a feature around the world as the Italian restaurant!

Further, many major sporting, musical or cultural events in this country receive sponsorship, financial support and backing from the drinks industry. Without this support the range of musical events and sporting tournaments that are a feature of the Irish calendar would be in jeopardy.Read more
